Modern Pain Management For Athletes
Athletes are constantly pushing themselves to the limit and that can sometimes result in injuries. Athletes apply greater stress to their bodies, leading to pain and inflammation greater than what their endocannabinoid system can handle. Too much inflammation hinders recovery and hurts performance. Since they are used to keeping their bodies at peak performance, injuries and pain are increasingly normal. CBD can help with pain and recovery and was recently removed from the prohibited category from The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) (1). However, the Federal, State, and local legality of cannabis and related products is constantly evolving, so check the laws
in your area before use.
CBD For Athletes Recovery
So, what does this mean for athletes? Athletes may find that cannabis can be better for pain than NSAIDs (i.e. ibuprofen). Chronic use of NSAIDs poses a greater health risk than previously known, and we are in the midst of an epidemic of opioid addiction and overdoses that kill tens of thousands of Americans annually (2). Studies have shown that cannabis is effective for reducing pain, including musculoskeletal pain from exercise, as well as stiff joints (3). Some athletes have found that the pain-relieving effect of CBD can reduce or eliminate their use of NSAIDs for exercise-related pain, with minimal side effects.
Many athletes have found that our products specifically help with pain and recovery. CBD is a natural solution to typical and overused pain medications with little side effects. Our creams and tinctures are formulated to be fast-acting since how you consume CBD may affect how quickly you experience its effects. (Topical creams are said to be quicker than edibles, and tinctures are said to be the most rapid.) Our CBD is available as an isolate and does not contain THC, which makes it safe from an anti-doping standpoint.
Athletes also know how important recovery is to their training regime, and CBD can offer beneficial help to their recovery. CBD has both antioxidant and neuroprotectant properties that assist in recovery. A patent assigned to the Department of Health & Human Services states “that the non-psychoactive cannabinoids like CBD are more preferable to use because you can give larger doses without any of the intoxicating or negative side effects.” (4). Those anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants in CBD help to reduce oxidative damage and can significantly speed up the recovery process for athletes.
CBD is a major turning point in how athletes can recover from training and manage both occasional and chronic pain.
